I love bunnyhops
I. Love. Bunny hops.
I decided to refine my movement after receiving some feedback, so I smoothed out most things. The basic movement now has a small starting speed boost when moving from zero speed, so acceleration is smooth but starts quickly without having to make any curves.
For the grapple, I simply have smoothing going up and down, and a slightly faster movement speed going down. I probably need to add some buffers and leniency features to grappling, but what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
For the jump, I borrowed how Celeste does its jump. Many games cut off your jump velocity after releasing the jump button, but in Celeste, you can hold jump for 12 frames to keep a consistent upwards velocity. I do the same thing, but I also give an ever-so-slight speed boost forwards while holding forwards during the jump boost, and it just subtly feels amazing. Not only does it make jumps feel more powerful, it can be used as an acceleration tech and it gives a boost to acceleration when jumping immediately for a longer gap.
Anyways, what do you think of the refined movement? Let me know!
